What if the goal of your headshot was to show WHO you are, not what you look like?

It may come as no surprise that we think and talk about headshots a LOT here at Denver Headshot Co. 

(Ok, we’re pretty obsessed. But that’s what you want in a headshot photographer!)

One of the things our photographers discuss all the time is how to reframe headshots in a way that helps people see beyond any body image challenges they may struggle with. 

Your headshot is often the first of the professional impressions you get to make. It should introduce people to the qualities that make someone want to refer you to their friends.  And, if you want your headshot to work for you, you want it to say so much more than “I’m so young and flawless.” 

Imagine if someone looked at your photo and could say, “She’s confident, experienced, and friendly.”

 

 

Try this little exercise:

Think about a time you went to a meeting with a professional of some sort – CPA, banker, mortgage officer, realtor. 

Did they impress you? If so, why? If not, why? 

It probably had something to do with how they made you feel and how you felt about them.

“They were great. I trusted them and felt they understood me. They were so welcoming and friendly.”

Have you ever said to a friend “You’ve got to use my realtor…they’re so…attractive”?

Didn’t think so. 

And it’s especially unlikely that you’ve said, “That realtor was aloof, unwelcoming, and looked mildly annoyed the whole time. But, wow, those cheekbones! And not a single wrinkle! You should really call them if you need a realtor.”

 

 

So when you come to get a new headshot, especially if you don’t generally love yourself in photos, we want you to focus on the professional qualities you want associated with you – approachable, confident, welcoming, knowledgeable, warm, competent, friendly. 

During your session, we’ll ask you about what you’re proud of as a professional so we can help that come through in your pictures. Of course, we want to get an objectively flattering picture of you as well. But the feeling someone gets about you when they see your photo is imminently more important in your success!
